A flag on a moving vehicle is not in weather, it is in a sustained gale that never drops. A standard flag that would last a season on a pole shreds on a truck in a couple of long drives, and it always starts at the fly end.

So these are built differently: a heavier denier fabric, taped and double-turned edges, and a shorter fly relative to the header so there is less leverage on the free edge. Nothing about that is visible in a photograph, which is exactly why it gets left out.

On boats there is salt as well, so the print has to be sublimated into the fibre rather than sitting on top of it, and the hardware must not be the part that corrodes.
